TROUTDALE, Ore. — A 14-year-old boy rescued a young child Monday night from a burning home in Troutdale.

KOIN reports six members of a family live in the home and everyone made it out except for a young boy on the second floor.

The family was crying for help when two neighbors arrived, Eduardo Ugarte and his 14-year-old son Marcos. Eduardo Ugate ran into the home but was driven back by heavy smoke. Meanwhile, Marcos found a ladder and placed it against a second-floor window. He broke out the screen and pulled the frightened child to safety.

The Gresham Fire Department says the child was taken to a nearby hospital. The home sustained significant damage.
