Russell leads West all-star girls over East

CHICAGO (AP) — Mercedes Russell had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the West to a 92-64 win over the East in the McDonald’s All-American girls game at the United Center on Wednesday night.

The Tennessee signee was voted the MVP.

The West jumped out to a 20-10 lead behind Tyler Scaife’s seven points. Rebecca Greenwell extended the lead to 31-13 on a 3-pointer. The Duke signee came up limping after being fouled on a layup attempt with 3:28 left in the half. She did not return and finished with eight points, going 2 for 3 from 3-point range.

Scaife, the player of the year from Arkansas, finished with 15 points and four assists.

Diamond DeShields had 15 points and Makayla Epps added 13 for the East. DeShields signed to play at North Carolina and Epps signed with Kentucky.
