• What to do in the garden: 11 a.m. April 6. April is the time to start setting out new plants. The month's tasks include starting and scattering seeds, planting, fertilizing and pruning.

• Japanese maple pruning: 11 a.m. April 13. Brian Tsugawa will show participants proper pruning techniques and how to develop an appropriate silhouette for trees.

• Veggie Gardening 101 & Beyond: 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. April 13. Join the Shorty's team for a discussion of all things veggie gardening, including soil composting and fertilization, seed starting and planting.

Family Wormshop: 10 a.m. to noon April 13 at Columbia Springs, 12208 S.E. Evergreen Highway. Learn the basics of vermicomposting and prepare bedding for a wormbin. Bin and worms provided.
