ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — The Whole Deal edged Sacred Ovation by a nose to win the $58,000 Santa Maria Purse at Santa Anita on Thursday.
Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, The Whole Deal ran 6 12 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:12.78 and paid $15.20, $6 and $3.20.
Sacred Ovation returned $9.80 and $3.60, while 4-5 favorite Horizon Sky was another 1 12 lengths back in third and paid $2.10 to show.
The victory, worth $34,800, increased The Whole Deal’s career earnings to $84,510, with three wins in 11 starts.
