Letter: County prayers? Not on my dime

The Columbian
Published: April 5, 2013, 5:00pm

I read that Clark County commissioners voted to allow prayers at their meetings. I am unsure if the praying is to occur during business hours or before. I did some back-of-the-envelope calculations; roughly speaking, three commissioners praying two minutes each, 52 times per year at $48/hour amounts to about $250/year total.

I sure hope they plan on praying on their own dime. I don’t mind paying taxes to educate our children, provide clean drinking water, treat our sewage or improve our antiquated transportation infrastructure, but I don’t see any reason why I should have to pay for their prayer sessions.
