ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of right-hander Nick Tepesch, who was set for his major league debut, and designated outfielder Julio Borbon for assignment.
Tepesch, the Rangers’ fifth starter while Colby Lewis works to get back from elbow surgery, was scheduled to start Tuesday night against Tampa Bay. The 24-year-old won his only start for Triple-A Round Rock, allowing five hits and one unearned run in five innings in his first appearance above Double-A.
Borbon made the roster coming out of spring training, but only because he was out of options. He was 0 for 1 in one game with the Rangers, who have 10 days to trade, release or outright the former supplemental first-round pick to the minor leagues.
