SPOKANE — The Spokane County prosecutor says he thinks it’s time he starts carrying a gun so he joined the line of people applying for concealed weapons permits at the Public Safety Building in Spokane.

Before he was prosecutor, Steve Tucker was a Washington state trooper, so it’s not a first for him.

KXLY-TV talked to Tucker on Tuesday. He waited to be fingerprinted so clerks could confirm his identity and said he planned to “do everything by the rules.”

Noting that two prosecutors in Texas were recently gunned down, Tucker said, in his words, “I don’t think we’re safe anywhere anymore and it’s just time to be ready for things if I can be.”

He confirms he’s received some threats in the past, including some he’s taken seriously.
