The Union Titans just made things a lot more interesting in the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League baseball race.

The Titans scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning Wednesday and handed Skyview its first league loss of the year, 9-6.

Union’s win, as well as Heritage’s victory over Evergreen, means the three teams are now separated by one game in the standings.

The Titans scored two runs off an error to take the lead, then Thomas Lampkin hit a run-scoring triple for some insurance. Jack Bauer went 2 for 4 and drove in two runs for Union. Jacob Albb threw two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win.

Meanwhile, Heritage remained in a tie for second place with Union at 5-2 with a 4-0 win over Evergreen.

Heritage pitcher Alex Smith struck out 11 in a three-hit shutout.

Stars of the day

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD: Jeremiah Arn of La Center won the javelin, high jump, and triple jump in a six-team meet at Woodland. He scored 34 points for his team.

BASEBALL: Call this a star of yesterday. We missed one. Colin Biggs of Mountain View, a freshman, threw a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 11 against Fort Vancouver.
