Has Spot been begging to get out of the house?

The 12th annual Northwest Pet and Companion Fair is the largest pet expo and pet adoption event in the Northwest, and well-behaved, leashed animals are welcome to attend the free event at the Portland Expo Center.

The pet fair features dozens of exhibitors, kennel clubs and nonprofit adoption and rescue groups, including West Columbia Gorge Humane Society in Washougal and Humane Society for Southwest Washington in Vancouver.

There will be a petting zoo, guest speakers, workshops, a pet fashion show, dog relay races, a pet-food drive, walk-through aviary and large adoption event.

Anyone bringing a pet is asked to sign a pet waiver form and to look at the guidelines provided on the website. Organizers are also asking those attending with pets to bring a food donation to benefit The Pongo Fund, which operates a food bank for pets.

The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 13 and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 14 at the Portland Expo Center, 2060 N. Marine Drive, Portland. Admission is free. Visit nwpetfair.com.
