A fire this morning destroyed a La Center mobile home, located at 33011 N.E. 30th Ave.

La Center Police Officer Jerry Lester was patrolling about 8 a.m. this morning when he noticed smoke in the distance, said Clark County Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Dawdy.

“He suspects something is wrong, drives out to the scene and finds a mobile home on fire,” Dawdy said.

The vacant mobile home is in a remote area, Dawdy said, which led to the great delay in anyone reporting the fire. By the time firefighters arrived, the mobile home was fully involved and the roof had collapsed, Dawdy said.

“If it wasn’t for the police officer being so aware, we may not have been alerted at all,” he said.

Firefighters attacked the flames and protected a nearby RV that was also unoccupied.

Investigators from The Clark County Fire Marshals Office are on their way to the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
