Magical Band wins Santa Anita feature

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Magical Band took the lead at the half-mile pole and hung on to win the $60,000 Salem Purse by a nose Friday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Magical Band covered 612 furlongs in 1:16.53 and paid $18.80, $7.20 and $4.80.

Conkate returned $4 and $2.60, while Nihilist was another 312 lengths back in third and paid $4.60 to show. My Philly Girl, the 6-5 favorite, finished fifth.

The victory, worth $36,000, increased Magical Band’s career earnings to $132,950, with three wins in nine starts.
