Breeja Larson wins in hometown event

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Olympic gold medalist Breeja Larson won the 100-meter breaststroke Saturday night in the Arena Grand Prix, finishing in 1 minute, 7.32 seconds in front her hometown crowd.

Fellow Olympic champion Katie Ledecky had the fastest time of the year in the women’s 800 freestyle, besting the field by more than 16 seconds in 8:20.64.

Olympic teen star Missy Franklin won the women’s 100 backstroke in 1:00.15, and Olympic champion Tyler Clary took the men’s 200 butterfly in 1:58.10.

Cammile Adams won the women’s 200 butterfly in 2:09.45, Matt Grevers took the men’s 100 backstroke in 54.26, and Michael Klueh ran away with the men’s 1,500 free in 15:28.57.

Also, Mike Alexandrov won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.63, and South Africa’s Darian Townsend took the 200 individual medley in 2:01.04, relegating Ryan Lochte to second at 2:01.90. Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu won the women’s 200 IM in 2:12.68.
