CLEVELAND (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have placed closer Joel Hanrahan on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right hamstring.

Boston manager John Farrell said Hanrahan is expected to begin throwing in five to seven days. Andrew Bailey will serve as the team’s closer.

Hanrahan, acquired from Pittsburgh in the offseason, is 0-1 with three saves and an 11.57 ERA in six appearances. The right-hander injured the hamstring in his second appearance of the season against New York on April 3.

Hanrahan allowed five runs, three hits and two walks while recording only two outs in an 8-5 loss to Baltimore on Wednesday.

Right-hander Steven Wright, a knuckleballer, was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket, where he was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in two starts.
