Talking Points: NFL has lost Faith

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

Sunday Night Football fans have lost their Faith.

Yep. Faith Hill will not perform the opening number for Sunday Night Football on NBC this fall.

Now what?

Here’s a vote for Taylor Swift singing about football breaking her heart.

Or Katy Perry. “I kissed a punter, and I liked it.” Or is that too risque?

Or Britney Spears: “Oops, I fumbled again.”

Perhaps a little Beyonce: “Single Ladies … Put a (Super Bowl) ring on it.”

Sportspickle.com posted a set of honest golf rules, in light of TigerGate.

Some we cannot print here, but we like these:

• Always swing as hard as you can from any shot that is 100 yards or more from the green.

• Golf carts must stay on the cart path. Except for you. You can drive wherever you like. You paid good money to play here, right?

• Always sigh and act disappointed after a (bad) shot as though you don’t do that all the time.

We’re tired of hearing that the Lakers played Kobe Bryant too much, leading to his injury.

Bryant isn’t some star early in his career, a la Derek Rose. He knows the end of his career is near. He was determined to play as much as he could to fulfill his guarantee that the Lakers would make the playoffs.

Love him or hate him, he has earned the right to play as many minutes as he wanted.

There is no proof that he would not have been injured if he had played five less minutes a game this year. But if he had played less, it’s probable that the Lakers would have lost one or two more games.

That’s the difference right now between playoffs and no playoffs.
