Grass Valley — Julie Della Valle is as green as you can get. The first grade teacher is Grass Valley Elementary School’s environmental leader, and she was recently honored for all she does by Clark County Environmental Services with a “Make Every Day Earth Day” award. A busy Eco Officers Club that audits school trash and recycling, class by class; a schoolwide Earth Day celebration; a walking field guide students can use to learn about nearby species and wetlands; and native plantings in the school garden are among Della Valle’s inspirations and activities, all of which have helped Grass Valley Elementary become an official Washington Green School, Level II.

“Thanks to her determination and enthusiasm,” says a statement from the county, “the entire Grass Valley community is making our world a better place.”
