Interesting and correct thoughts by both The Columbian’s business editor Gordon Oliver and Kelly Parker, president and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, concerning a “Welcome to Vancouver” sign on the future Interstate Bridge (“Don’t blink, or you’ll miss it,” April 7)
It is true, mounting a sign on the current bridge would be both difficult and expensive. What would be worth addressing is the sign at the Mill Plain Boulevard exit from I-5. It is covered with graffiti.
This is the exit that directs drivers to the Fort Vancouver Historic Reserve, the National Park Service, Clark College, Hudson’s Bay High School and downtown Vancouver. It serves as an intersection for both points, east and west. I would advocate cleaning up the Mill Plain Boulevard exit sign to create a positive image of the city of Vancouver. I believe Mayor Tim Leavitt would agree.
