FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis says his father-in-law is in critical condition after being injured during the explosions at the Boston Marathon.

Reis says John Odom underwent three surgeries in 40 hours, is making slow progress and “we still don’t know if he’s going to make it.”

Odom was the only one in the original group of seven people who was hurt as they watched the race in which Reis’ wife was running, the goalkeeper said. Reis had just moved closer to the finish line to take pictures when the bomb went off, he said.

He said Odom was probably about 10 feet away from the explosion.

Reis, a 16-year Major League Soccer veteran in his 11th season with New England, attended practice Wednesday and updated teammates on his father-in-law’s condition.
