SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (AP) — Former Rutgers basketball coach Fred Hill has taken a job as an assistant again at Seton Hall.

Pirates coach Kevin Willard made the announcement on Wednesday. When Hill was on Tommy Amaker’s staff from 1998-2001, Seton Hall was recognized for having the nation’s top recruiting classes.

Hill spent the past two years as an assistant at Northwestern. He was fired by Rutgers for insubordination in 2010 after four years as the coach. Hill was replaced by Mike Rice, who was fired two weeks ago for kicking and grabbing players in practice and uttering gay slurs.

Willard says Hill had “tremendous success on the recruiting trail in his first term at Seton Hall, and we look forward to this next chapter.”

Hill’s best recruits at Seton Hall were point guard Andre Barrett (2000-04), and NBA veterans Eddie Griffin and Samuel Dalembert.

In his 30-year career, Hill also worked at Fairleigh Dickinson, Villanova, Montclair State, Maine, Marquette, Rider and Lehigh.
