Letter: In praise of same-sex marriages

I have had the honor and pleasure to attend two weddings for same-sex couples. Ever since Washington state said, “I do,” last November to same-sex marriage, gays and lesbians truly have the freedom to live as they choose, especially if they decide to live as married couples. I, along with hundreds of family and friends, witnessed these loving, and caring couples as they publicly acknowledged their commitment to each other. These two couples have been together for 18 and 22 years, respectively.

I can’t see how any fair-minded person can work to stop their and future same-sex marriages from happening.

It’s hard to imagine how any same-sex marriages will harm any children or opposite-sex marriages. It’s difficult to argue how legalizing these marriages would infringe on anyone’s religious freedom. Churches and clergy will always be free to disapprove of same-sex marriages as well as divorce, gambling, alcohol and caffeine.
