MADRID (AP) — Madrid’s 2020 Olympic bid committee says enrollment for next week’s Madrid Marathon has risen following the deadly bombings at the Boston race.

The bid committee says entries for Madrid increased fourfold the day after Monday’s bombings in Boston. A total of 7,709 runners signed up on Tuesday for the Madrid Marathon, which will be held on April 28.

Alejandro Blanco, the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee and head of the bid committee, says “the increase in enrollment shows the unconditional support and solidarity of Madrid’s citizens for the city of Boston.”

Madrid is competing with Tokyo and Istanbul for the right to host the 2020 Olympics. The winner will be announced in September.
