Prep roundup: Woodward to play in NW Shootout

Prairie basketball standout Cori Woodward has one more high school game before she heads to sunny California.

Woodward, The Columbian’s All-Region player of the year this winter, will be playing Saturday afternoon at the Northwest Shootout in Portland. The all-star game featuring some of the best players from Washington and Oregon will be held at the Chiles Center at the University of Portland.

The girls game will be at 4 p.m. The boys game will be at 6 p.m.

Woodward is the lone athlete representing Clark County at this year’s event.

This is the 19th Northwest Shootout. The game was not played last year as the event sought sponsorship. Buffalo Wild Wings is the signature sponsor this year.

Woodward will be the first girl from Clark County to play in this game since Ashley Corral of Prairie was named the game’s MVP in 2008.Woodward has signed with the University of San Diego.

Stars of the day

SOFTBALL: Evergreen’s Kaycee Jones-Allinger hit a double in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in the only run of the game in a 1-0 victory over Columbia River.

SOCCER: Emmanuel Gill scored two goals and Casey Turner made seven saves as Hockinson defeated Ridgefield 2-1 to forge a first-place tie in the 2A Greater St. Helens League with the Spudders.
