ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Oakland Athletics have recalled right-hander Jesse Chavez from Triple-A Sacramento and optioned pitcher Evan Scribner to the Pacific Coast League club.

The moves were made Saturday, one day after Scribner threw three innings after Athletics starter Brett Anderson left after the first inning with a sprained right ankle in an 8-3 loss to Tampa Bay.

Oakland manager Bob Melvin said Anderson felt better Saturday, but didn’t do any on-field work. Melvin says the status of the left-hander’s next scheduled start Wednesday at Boston will be evaluated on Sunday.

Yoenis Cespedes, on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left hand muscle, swung a fungo bat Saturday. Melvin said the outfielder might hit off a tee Sunday.
