SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Diego Padres left-hander Clayton Richard has been scratched from his scheduled start Saturday night against the San Francisco Giants after he came down with a stomach virus.

Manager Bud Black says Richard began vomiting after he woke up Saturday morning and has no energy. Andrew Cashner was called upon to make a spot start after serving in long relief.

If he is healthy in a couple of days, Richard could return to the rotation on Tuesday to fill Tyson Ross’ slot after the right-hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder after it popped out on his first major league hit Tuesday against the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw.

San Diego recalled right-hander Thad Weber from Triple-A Tucson to fill a bullpen spot.
