Interaction wins San Juan ‘Cap at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Interaction held off All Squared Away to win the $150,000 San Juan Capistrano Handicap by a nose on closing day at Santa Anita on Sunday.

Ridden by Joe Talamo, Interaction ran 134 miles on the turf in 2:44.89 and paid $10, $4.40 and $3.

All Squared Away returned $4.20 and $3.40, while Smart Ellis was another three lengths back in third and paid $3.60 to show.

It was the 701st career victory at Santa Anita for 80-year-old Hall of Fame trainer Ron McAnally, who won the race for the third time.

Bob Baffert won the training title for the third straight year with 38 victories over fellow Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer, who had 35.

Rafael Bejarano won his fourth riding title at Santa Anita with 93 victories — 31 more than Edwin Maldonado.
