A free clinic on how to catch northern pikeminnow in the Columbia River will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, 2108 Grand Blvd.

Eric Winther, pikeminnow program manager, will be the speaker.

The pikeminnow reward program opens for 2013 on May 1. A bounty of $4 per fish is paid for the first 100 pikeminnow, $5 is paid for fish Nos. 101-400 and $8 for each pikeminnow after 400.

The pikeminnow must be at least 9 inches. There also are tagged fish in the river worth $500 each. The season continues through Sept. 30.

There will be registration stations this year at Ridgefield Marina, Marine Park in Vancouver, the Port of Camas-Washougal ramp and Beacon Rock State Park boat ramp.
