ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins own the No. 51 pick in the NFL draft, and Mike Shanahan is very familiar with that spot.

He had that selection three years in a row with the Denver Broncos early last decade and went 1 for 3, taking Clinton Portis in 2002 and two forgettable players in 2001 and 2003.

Shanahan is hoping for Portis-like success when the Redskins are on the board Friday in the draft’s second round.

The Redskins are set to be a spectator for Thursday’s first round because of last year’s trade that allowed them to move up and select Robert Griffin III.

Shanahan jokes that there’s a “one in a million” chance the Redskins will trade to move into the first round.
