A fire Thursday afternoon damaged Pacific Northwest Best Fish Co., one of the Portland area’s largest seafood retailers.

The fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. at the business, which is located at 24415 N.E. 10th Ave., in a rural area north of Duluth. The building was then evacuated.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the eaves of a wooden outbuilding where seafood is cooked and sold for immediate consumption, said Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy, spokesman for Clark County Fire & Rescue. The crew used a thermal imaging camera to find out where the fire was; firefighters cut a hole in the north wall behind a fryer and extinguished the fire.

Firetrucks and water tenders from CCF&R were dispatched to the fire, along with command staff. Power and gas was shut off temporarily while firefighters worked. The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating this fire.

Pacific Northwest Best Fish Co. is a family-run seafood retail store, smokehouse and restaurant, next door to East Fork Cellars.
