TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected Mississippi State cornerback Johnthan Banks in the second round of the NFL draft.

The Bucs did not have a pick in the first round after trading the 13th overall pick to the New York Jets in exchange for three-time All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Banks was the 11th pick of the second round Friday night, No. 43 overall. He joins a defense that ranked last in the league against the pass in 2012.

Improving the secondary has been general manager Mark Dominik’s biggest offseason priority. In addition to obtaining Revis and drafting Banks, who had 16 career interceptions in college, the Bucs added All-Pro safety Dashon Goldson to their defensive backfield through free agency.
