To decision makers in Olympia and Seattle regarding the Columbia River Crossing. Please “jam it down our throats.” I am sorry it has to be that way, like giving medicine to a pet. A few of us, including a venerable politician or two, would have you believe we want to live nostalgically in the 20th century. I am sure most would prefer we provide Oregonians nothing more than a shallow channel to ford the stream on horseback.
Unfortunately the world does not work that way. The bridge we will have to build in 2035 will not be any better than the one we have the opportunity to build now. The federal government has more money than they know what to do with right now. Can we assure that will be true in five or 10 years?
