CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox placed starter Gavin Floyd on the disabled lost with a flexor muscle strain in his right arm on Sunday.
Floyd left after 2 2-3 innings in Saturday’s 10-4 loss with the injury. He had an MRI Saturday night which did not indicate a tear. The right-hander is 0-4 with a 5.18 ERA in five starts.
The White Sox are already missing starter John Danks (left shoulder), along with five other players who are on the disabled list. Everyday players Gordon Beckham and Dayan Viciedo are also on the DL.
Floyd will be replaced in the rotation by Hector Santiago, who threw 86 pitches in relief Saturday. Floyd went on the DL last August with a similar injury. Santiago, 0-1 with a 2.51 ERA in seven appearances, will start Friday at Kansas City.
