After several days of being closed due to a nearby wildfire, Highway 97 over Satus Pass has reopened.

The Washington State Department of Transportation announced this morning that the highway has reopened from Goldendale to Toppenish.

Motorists can expect to find a reduced speed limit to 40 mph from the Yakima/Klickitat county line to Satus Pass, according to WSDOT. Firefighting and mop-up efforts are still under way.

Highway 97 is the main north-south corridor in the Columbia River Gorge, connecting Southwest Washington with Central and Eastern Washington. It’s likely to be busier than usual today with fans headed to a three-day, sold-out country music festival at the Gorge Amphitheater near George.
