NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Tina Charles scored had 21 points and 13 rebounds, Renee Montgomery scored nine of her 18 points in a decisive third quarter, and the Connecticut Sun cruised to an 88-66 victory over the New York Liberty on Saturday night.
Kelsey Griffin scored 16 points and Allison Hightower added 13 to help the Sun (6-12) get their second straight win after a three-game losing streak.
Kara Braxton scored 18 points and Plenette Pierson and Cappie Pondexter each added 17 for New York (8-12).
Trailing 34-33 at halftime, the Sun outscored the Liberty 27-14 in the third quarter.
The Liberty sliced the lead to 68-62 in the fourth quarter, but then Charles hit two consecutive corner jumpers to push the lead back to 10 with 5:52 remaining.
Montgomery’s fourth 3-pointer of the game from way behind the arc extended the lead to 77-64.
