A cat stranded at the top of a telephone pole in Tenino that had neighbors worried for four days came down on his own during a rescue attempt Friday. It fled into the woods.

The cat, described as a “teenaged” black-and-white cat, was perched atop the pole at the corner of Bronson Street and Offut Lake Road until early Friday morning, according to neighbor Noreen Cregg.

She and other neighbors put out food and water trying to coax the cat down, but to no avail. After calls to Animal Services, Puget Sound Energy and the local fire department, many thought the cat would meet its fate atop the pole.

On Friday morning, a PSE representative did go to the scene, Cregg said. He was on his way up to retrieve it when the cat ran down the pole.

The cat hasn’t been seen since.
