Strong quake hits eastern Japan, no tsunami warning issued

TOKYO — A magnitude-6 earthquake jolted wide areas of northeastern Japan on Sunday, the Meteorological Agency said.

No tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of injuries, dead or damage.

The agency said the quake struck at 12:29 p.m. and was centered off the Miyagi prefecture.
