MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — John Hubert can’t help but think about last year, and how a season that could have very well ended in the national championship game was ruined on a Saturday night at Baylor.
The Wildcats were undefeated and No. 1 in the BCS standings when they rolled into Waco, Texas. They left with a humbling loss that dropped them into the Fiesta Bowl.
It was a nice consolation prize. But after watching Alabama dismantle Notre Dame in the BCS title game, Hubert knew his Wildcats also would have beaten the Fighting Irish if given the chance.
Now, as the Wildcats prepare for a new season, the senior running back is still pondering that disheartening defeat. In many ways, Hubert says, it’s providing motivation for a team that has undergone massive turnover.
