ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny changed his lineup several hours before game-time to get power-hitting Matt Adams on the card.

The revised lineup had Adams batting sixth and playing first base in his second start of the month and Allen Craig getting a night off Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers and right-hander Ricky Nolasco. Matheny said it was just a rest for Craig, and that he’d back in the lineup Thursday against lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu.

The 24-year-old Adams hit his third pinch homer of the season Tuesday night and was batting .290 with nine homers and 34 RBIs in 176 at-bats.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he hadn’t had time to look closely at the Cardinals’ lineup card before getting the revised version.
