SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants have recalled catcher Hector Sanchez from Triple-A Fresno and designated Guillermo Quiroz for assignment to clear space on the roster.
Sanchez was in the starting lineup to catch Tim Lincecum in Thursday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Buster Posey was given the day off.
Sanchez was placed on the disabled list with a strained right shoulder on July 9. He batted .231 with three RBIs in 26 games for the Giants earlier this season.
Quiroz hit .186 with one home run and six RBIs in 43 games.
