Letter: Moeller misses teachable moment

Since the July 29 story, “Herrera Beutler delivers prematurely; baby OK,” announcing her daughter Abigail Rose’s birth, Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler has encountered much criticism.

State Rep. Jim Moeller echoes this criticism in the online story’s comments. While wishing Abigail well, he admonishes her mother for attempts to “repeal or end the medical coverage for millions,” says that she “had the choice of safely terminating her pregnancy” and that perhaps this event can be a “teachable moment” for the congresswoman to see the errors of her ways.

Of all the “teachable moments” Moeller misses, the most profound is in little Abigail’s picture. She weighed 2 pounds, 12 ounces when she was born prematurely at 28 weeks.

The reality is that if this same little baby Abigail, at 28 weeks’ gestation, was resting inside her mother’s womb rather than out, abortion advocates say she could be “safely terminated” via abortion.

Look at the picture.
