Letter: Resistance will send jobs south

The Columbian
Published: August 17, 2013, 5:00pm

To all you people hollering that you don’t want an oil terminal built at the Port of Vancouver or oil trains traveling to the Port of Vancouver, here’s something to think about.

An oil terminal already is operating on the Columbia River at Port Westward. They are currently running several trains a week and are planning to at least double that next year. Port Westward is in Oregon between Rainier and Clatskanie. So let’s shoot ourselves in the foot and send all future trains to this port and give Oregon the money. Then you can drive back and forth to Port Westward for jobs and pay Oregon income tax.

Does that sound smart to you? It doesn’t to me.
