EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Adrian Peterson will make his preseason debut for the Minnesota Vikings this week against the San Francisco 49ers.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says his plan is to get the reigning NFL MVP some playing time after sitting Peterson during the first two exhibition games. Frazier would not elaborate on how much he will play his star running back.

Peterson’s presence should be a huge boon to the Vikings’ starting offense, which has looked ragged in the first two weeks.

It will be the first preseason action in two years for Peterson. He missed all of the exhibition season last year while working his way back from torn ligaments in his left knee. He went on to rush for 2,097 yards last season, the second-highest total in league history.
