Westport, Conn., advances in LLWS

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) — Winning pitcher Harry Azadian had three hits and four RBIs and Westport, Conn., held off Sammamish, Wash., 9-7 on Sunday to remain unbeaten in the Little League World Series.

Westport (2-0) will play the winner of a game between Chula Vista, Calif., and Newark, Del.

Westport sent 12 batters to the plate in the second inning. In the inning, Sammamish starting pitcher Jacob Dahlstrom was struck on the side of his right knee with a line drive hit by Tatin Llamas and did not return to the game.

Westport’s Max Popken also was struck in the leg by a line drive while running the bases in the fifth inning and did not return.

Westport scored seven runs on six hits after Dahlstrom’s second-inning departure. Charlie Roof, Max Popken, Chad Knight and Azadian had run-scoring hits during against three Sammamish pitchers.

Sammamish rallied after Azadian was pulled by scoring twice in the fourth and four times more in the fifth. Westport relief pitcher Alex Reiner stopped a sixth-inning Sammamish rally with a strikeout to end the game.
