SEATTLE — A Seattle boat auction has left the city a little underwater.
The Seattle Times reported Thursday that the city auctioned off a 1927-vintage fireboat for about $25,000, but only after spending more than $35,000 preparing it for sale.
The 123-foot fireboat Alki went to auction last week, drawing interest from 18 bidders. The boat had gone to auction previously, but the winning bidder in that sale backed out of the deal because officials hadn’t done a marine survey on the vessel.
Alki was the Seattle Fire Department’s Marine Emergency Response Team’s oldest vessel.
