US tops Canada 3-2 in women’s hockey exhibition

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) — The United States beat Canada 3-2 Sunday in the finale of the women’s under-18 exhibition hockey series.

The U.S. used a three-goal second period to win the game. Taylor Williamson’s power-play goal tied it just 44 seconds into the period, and Lexie Laing scored two more to put the Americans ahead for good.

Eve-Audrey Picard scored twice for Canada. Picard opened the scoring at 16:58 in the first period and added another goal in the third.

Shea Tiley made 27 saves in net for Canada, while Erin O’Neil stopped 18 for the U.S.

Canada won the series 2-1, taking the opening game 4-1 Thursday and beating the U.S. 3-2 Friday.

The teams are preparing for the under-18 Women’s World Championship next April.
