A Camas man was sent to a hospital after accidentally shooting himself late Sunday night.

Scott Olson, 53, was using the flashlight mounted on his .40 caliber handgun to unlock a padlock in a dark room when the gun slipped and accidentally fired, Camas police Sgt. David Chaney said. Police and paramedics responded to his residence, 926 N.W. Greeley St., about 11:50 p.m.

“He tried to catch it as it fell and it went off,” he said.

The bullet went through his finger and lodged into his thigh, Chaney said.

Olson was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center where he was treated and released.

Chaney said that no citations were issued.
