LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California has added a transfer from Maryland to its men’s basketball team under new coach Andy Enfield.

Point guard Pe’Shon Howard received a legislative relief waiver from the NCAA that allowed him to return home to be closer to his ailing grandmother.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder started 44 of 83 games in three seasons at Maryland. He averaged 3.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season while helping lead the Terrapins to the NIT semifinals.

As a senior, Howard will be eligible for the upcoming season.

Enfield says Howard’s grandmother helped raise him in Los Angeles. He attended Oak Hill Academy in Virginia.

Last week, center D.J. Haley joined the Trojans after graduating from VCU this summer. He will have one year of eligibility at USC.
