With more motorists on the road during Labor Day weekend, additional area law enforcement agencies will be on the roads, as well, watching for impaired drivers. Police will be out on county roads, city streets and state highways during the holiday as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol and Battle Ground, Vancouver, La Center and Camas police departments are participating in the effort. The sheriff’s office reminds people to plan ahead for the holiday’s celebrations and ensure everyone has a safe way to get home.
According to the State Patrol, a DUI arrest can cost more than $11,000 in attorney fees, fines and court costs.
Funding for overtime patrols comes from the Washington Traffic Safety Plan in support of the Strategic Highway Safety Plan to eliminate fatalities and serious-injury traffic accidents by 2030. So far this year, state troopers have investigated 13 traffic fatalities and 21 serious-injury collisions.
