Steelers on the bubble hope to impress in finale

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers have few questions about their starters heading into Thursday night’s preseason finale against Carolina.

The only goal for the starters who play against the Panthers is to make sure they don’t get hurt. The only position battle left is at punter, where Brian Moorman and Drew Butler will get one last chance to impress coach Mike Tomlin.

The real challenge for Tomlin and the rest of the coaching staff will be figuring out the depth chart, particularly at linebacker. Brian Rolle and rookie Vince Williams are in the mix to backup starters Larry Foote and Lawrence Timmons. Tomlin says the deciding factor may be who makes a bigger impact on special teams.

The Steelers are looking to avoid their first winless preseason since 2006, Bill Cowher’s final year as head coach.
