NEW YORK (AP) — Three minor league players in the Houston Astros’ organization have been suspended because of drug violations.
The commissioner’s office announced the 50-game penalties on Friday. All three players tested positive for an amphetamine.
First baseman Michael Martinez and outfielder D’Andre Toney are with Class A Tri-City of the New York-Penn League. Shortstop Jose Fernandez is in the rookie level Gulf Coast League.
Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said the team will review its drug education and prevention program to try to prevent future violations.
There have been 50 suspensions this year under the minor league program and 15 under the major league program.
