St. Francis (NY) slips by Sony Brook 70-68

STONYBROOK, N.Y. (AP) — Jalen Cannon scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds and St. Francis edged Stony Brook 70-68 on Sunday.

Wayne Martin and Ben Mockord added 12 each for Stony Brook (5-3).

St. Francis (5-3) finished the first half leading Stony Brook 36-28 with the Terriers 3-point scoring advantage accounting for the spread. Both teams shot over 50 percent in the first half.

Stony Brook climbed back into the game and tied the score at 47 on a 10-1 run capped with an Eric McAlister dunk with 13 minutes to play in the second. Stony Brook led for much of the remainder of the game until Cannon sank a 3-pointer with 40 seconds to go. The Seawolves Anthony Jackson hit a jumper to tie it at 68, but Martin tipped-in a missed layup with seconds left to win it.

Carson Puriefoy led Stoney Brook scorers with 17 points.
