RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Anthony Ireland had 16 points to lead Loyola Marymount to a 73-69 win over UC-Riverside Monday night.
Gabe Levin added 13 points while pulling down 14 rebounds for Loyola Marymount (6-2).
UC Riverside (2-4) had an early lead but Loyola Marymount gained the advantage 17-15 on an Ireland jump shot midway through the first period. The Lions stretched that to 32-20 with 5:55 remaining and held a 39-31 lead at the half.
Chris Harriel made a 3-pointer at the 15:20 mark of the second period as the Highlanders retook the lead 45-43. Two free throws by Levin and a 3-pointer by Ireland put the Lions back out front 48-45. LMU extended that lead to 59-50 on another Ireland 3-point shot with 9:01 remaining. UC Riverside closed to 61-60 with 6 minutes remaining but could never regain the lead.
Taylor Johns led the Highlanders with 22 points and 16 rebounds.
